How to work

On this site we would like to provide you with a short  introduction of SiCon, our filling level measuring system for dry bulk goods.

The silo filling level sensor measures the  fill level of a silo or storage room filled with dry bulk goods like wood pellets, corn, grain, sugar and many more bulk items in a continuous and capacitive way. By means of two parallel electrodes – they can be pipes, ropes, foil or meshwork all made of metal - the capacity is measured. If a bulk good item is brought between the two electrodes, the capacity between the electrodes changes. This change of capacity is registered in the sensor electronics, and then digitalized and transmitted to the control unit which is located outside the silos. In the control unit, the signal is then brought into proportion with the silo and displayed. Now, optionally, different modules can be incorporated into the control unit, which can transmit the filling level to a status monitor.

A characteristic trait of this measuring system is its robustness. The system can also be used in a particularly rough environment. It is only limited by the choice of the material used for the electrodes. Within the silo or container, pressure, heat/cold or dust do not constitute a problem for the system.

As with all storage rooms/containers for most of the bulk goods,  these are hazardous sites, and the risk of explosion does exists. For this reason the SiCon has been designed to satisfy these special requirements.
